The simplest means of paying for transportation in Seoul is using the
transportation card.
T-Money Cards are sold at subway stations.
T-Money card can be used to receive
discounts when transferring between buses and subways to reach a destination.
Passengers should pass their transportation card or T-money over the read
machine until a beep is heard when getting on and off a bus or the subway. If
you fail to scan your card as you get off a bus or the subway, you will not be
able to take advantage of the transfer discount.
After getting off the bus or subway, a passenger has up to 30 minutes to
transfer to another bus or the subway to get the transfer discount. This is
extended to one hour between 21:00 to 07:00. This means that passengers only
have to pay the 800 won boarding fee once, no matter how many times they change
between buses and subways, with an increment of 100 won charged for every
additional 5 km (bus) or 6 km (subway). No discounts are available when using
cash or single ride tickets.
